Originally from Upstate NY, I have lived in Denver and worked out of my studio in South Central Denver since 2001. I am a Teaching Artist, specializing in drawing and painting and portfolio development for students preparing for art school. I work both as a drawing and painting instructor for Denver Public Schools at East High School and out of my studio, currently painting in both acrylics and oils. Summers, I run an art camp called 'Time for Art,' where artists utilize Yoga based stretching, sketcbook technique and collections of the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Botanic Gardens as source material for their projects.
In my most recent body of work I am interested in grappling with our delicate humanity. This includes an appreciation for the cycle that is living and dying...and all that is unknown in, around and between these cycles. Using images I have recently collected of plant life, Landlocked represents how we feel in our own bodies at times. These are dead seawater plants, washed up along the shore and ripped out of their element-the ocean, but still making beautiful marks. Landlocked explores this idea of being disconnected from your source. The process of creating these paintings is an acknowledgement of these life cycles and it is in the spirit of renewal that I find the source material for the artwork I create.
